I combine my love of painting and traditional techniques into distinctive still life paintings, the style reminiscent of 17th century Flemish artists. I choose my subjects from a variety of materials and textures, including Madiera lace, Persian rugs, glass, porcelain and fruit.
I take a great deal of time in the selection and planning process to produce contrasts of color, texture, and value, while showing the interplay of light. I am especially interested in this movement of light across the painting. The paintings begin with multiple layers of oil on Belgium linen or panels, and these layers result in a luminous effect of mystery, shadow and depth.
