Sculpture

Shelley and Michael Buonaiuto have been sculpting since 1972. Over the years they have produced work in lowfire and highfire clays, glazed and unglazed, and bronzes and resins. The one-of-a-kind stoneware or stoneware and porcelain pieces are sculpted with a variety of clays, and gas-fired with a minimum if any glaze or colorant to cone 9 1/2 in high-reduction (the reduction of oxygen in the atmosphere of the kiln produces a richer color in the clay). Shelley and Michael each make their own work, occasionally collaborating on pieces, though most recently, Shelley has been concentrating more on the sculpting and Michael does finishing and firing. Lately Michael has been developing a line of paintings to express his deep interest in movements of energy and they are considering a new line of sculpture combining the paintings with reliefs.
