Sculpture

I am inspired by the beauty of the world's wild creatures and strive to capture their spirits in clay. I have been drawing and sculpting animals since childhood and clay has become my favorite medium. Before sculpting, I study and sketch the anatomy of my subject, many of which are endangered species. I try to convey the animal's inseparable connection to its vital habitat. I use slab, coil and pinch hand building techniques and bisque fire pieces in an electric kiln. Afterward, I use primitive smoke firing or sawdust firing techniques and some pieces are accented or painted with watercolors. Each one is an original work of art, and in my artistic endeavors I hope to reveal the beauty and essence of our earthly companions.
