I've taught photography and made photographs for over 30 years, using mainly large format cameras with negatives up to 8x10 inches. The advent of digital photography has opened new doors for me, and I embrace this technology in my work, not to distort the reality that I experience in the landscape, but to show more of the colors and textures that I perceive. Working digitally offers me an expanded color palette and tonal range, with more controls than were previously available in the darkroom. I now work more like a painter than a photographer, crafting the colors and tonality to be the way I want them, not just the way the process allows them to be. Printing on archival textured papers adds a unique tactile quality to my photographs that is not available through chemically processed photography.
