I am a frustrated writer really, choosing to tell my stories in a visual language with strong symbols and often quirky juxtapositions. Using powdered limestone and carrera marble, which I mix with distilled water and titanium, I then trowel onto a platform of birch and allow this to cure for 3 weeks or so. After grinding this hard surface with power tools, I then paint the white surface with casein, This allows for precision engraving. My process combines the chemical properties of stone lithography with the physical nature of block printing. My art is made by engraving through the black to the white stone, in mirror image. Paper is then laid over the inked surface, then pulled as a relief print through the press. Many found objects find their way into my work. Leaves, bones, shards and computer circuitry components all have been used.
